Whale falls can provide food in the deep sea for 50 years. Usually deep sea creatures survive on tiny bits of organic matter, known as marine snow, that constantly float down. A whale fall is a much heartier food source for these animals that never see the light of day, but it is not a guarantee they will ever come across one in their lifetimes. | OceanX
