Located in Japantown, the Peace Plaza was created and donated in the mid-1960s as a gift from Osaka, San Francisco's sister city in Japan. It was inspired by a series of pagodas that exists in Japan's ancient capital, Nara, and is a symbol of goodwill and friendship.

The Peace Plaza is located in the heart of the city at 1st Avenue Southwest and 1st Street Southwest. A public space, the Peace Plaza is open to the public to enjoy all year and is also available for rentals to host private and organized public events.
