Alexander Mathis, PhD | Assistant Professor. Our work strives to understand how the brain creates complex behavior. To achieve that goal, in part, we develop tools for the measurement of behavior and make sure that they are broadly accessible to the community.
Alexander Mathis - Wikipedia
Alexander Mathis is an Austrian mathematician, computational neuroscientist and software developer. He is currently an assistant professor at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. His research interest focus on research at the intersection of computational neuroscience and machine learning.
Alexander Mathis Lab ‐ EPFL
Feb 4, 2025 · Alexander Mathis Group of Computational Neuroscience & AI Broadly speaking, we work at the intersection of computational neuroscience and machine learning . Ultimately, we are interested in reverse engineering the algorithms of the brain, in order to figure out how the brain works and to build better artificial intelligence systems.
The Mathis Lab of Adaptive Intelligence
The Robert Bing Prize 2024 has been awarded jointly to Prof. Alexander Mathis and Prof. Mackenzie W. Mathis (EPFL) for their pioneering work bridging machine learninig and behavioral neuroscience, and to Prof. Susanne Wegener (University Hospital Zurich/University of Zurich) for her translational research on the pathophysiology and treatment of ...
Alexander Mathis — People - EPFL
Alexander Mathis is an assistant professor at the Brain Mind Institut. He is working at the intersection of computational neuroscience, and machine learning, focusing on trying to understand the statistics of behavior and how the brain creates behavior.
Mathis Group
Welcome to the Mathis Group! We work at the intersection of computational neuroscience and machine learning. Ultimately — and this is very aspirational — we are interested in understanding behavior in computational terms and in reverse-engineering the algorithms of the brain, in order to figure out how the brain works and to build better ...

Our Research — The Mathis Lab of Adaptive Intelligence
We develop skilled motor tasks where mice can learn from dynamically changing sensory and reward landscapes. We also study adaptive natural behaviors. In particular, we are interested in continual learning in both biological and artificial agents.
