M250 Turboshaft: Helicopter Engine - Rolls-Royce
More than 31,000 M250s have been delivered to date for both current and cutting-edge applications, with an estimated 16,000 engines currently in service. Originally developed as the T63 to meet a US Army requirement for a 250 shaft horsepower (SHP) turboshaft, the Series I M250 turboshaft has spawned an entire family of small turbine engines.
Built to be compact, efficient, and powerful, turboshafts have made modern helicopters and the feats they accomplish possible. First implemented in the 1950s, turboshaft geometry has gone largely unchanged, but advances in materials and axial flow technology have continued to drive higher power and efficiency from today's turboshafts.
Honeywell T55 - Wikipedia
The Honeywell T55 (formerly Lycoming; company designation LTC-4) is a turboshaft engine used on American helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft (in turboprop form) since the 1950s, and in unlimited hydroplanes since the 1980s.
Turboshafts are an adaptation of gas turbine technology in which the principle output is shaft power from the expansion of hot gas through the turbine, rather than thrust from the exhaust of these gases. They have found a wide variety of applications ranging from air compression to auxiliary power generation to racing boat propulsion and more.
Helicopter Engines - Pratt & Whitney
PW210 Turboshaft Engines The PW210 fleet has more than 360,000 flying hours, and is the benchmark for a new generation of twin-engine helicopters for intermediate—and medium-class helicopters. One of many advanced technologies, the engine doubles as an auxiliary power unit, powering electrical, cooling and heating systems while the aircraft ...
M250 Turboshaft | Rolls-Royce
Two-shaft modular design featuring a two-stage LP turbine, two-stage HP turbine, and a gearbox delivering 6,000 RPM output. Compressed air is routed to the aft end of the engine for combustion, with exhaust gases exit from the middle.
Turboshaft engines are the usual choice to power helicopter lifting and propulsion systems. Optimizing turboshaft engine efficiency is therefore useful to improve overall helicopter performance and also to reduce specific fuel consumption.
helicopter turboshafts Since years 50's, TURBOMECA has built a solid and large experience in the field of helicopter power plant. Indeed, for 40 years, TURBOMECA has produced more than 45000 helicopter turboshaft engines and cumulated more than 67 millions of running hours. The Figure 1 shows the three main
Helicopter Turboshafts - DocsLib
Most helicopter, marine, and auxiliary power units applications take advantage of turboshaft configurations. In fact, the turboshaft plays a workhorse role in the aviation industry as much as it is does for industrial power generation.
