Hansen left the northeast for stints in Texas, Florida, Georgia and Japan. In February 1980, he beat Antonio Inoki for the NWF World Heavyweight Title in Tokyo. Inoki regained the belt in April. Hansen took a non-title victory over Shohei Baba, the PWF World Champion, on June 1, 1982. A return match was held on September 14th and Hansen was beaten.
