The Neoplan order was the largest order in history of SEPTA before the New Flyers. One-thousand-ninety-two (1092) units were purchased by SEPTA between 1982-1989. Therefore making SEPTA, Neoplan’s largest customer worldwide. While many buses throughout the orders changed, much has remained the same.

The Neoplan USA AN440 was a 40-foot (12m), high-floor transit bus sold in the United States. The first buses were built for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA). Between 1982 and 1989, they would amass the largest fleet of AN440 buses.

By 1989, SEPTA, the largest transportation network in Pennsylvania, had purchased a cumulative total of 1,092 Neoplan AN435 and AN440 buses. [ 37 ] [ 38 ] As they aged, they were replaced by American Ikarus and New Flyer Low Floor buses that entered service between 1996 and 2005.

2024年2月23日 · By the early 1990s – there were over one thousand Neoplan AN435 and AN440 buses in active service. The Neoplans were phased out in 2008. Today SEPTA’s bus fleet consists of over 1,400 buses operating out of nine (9) districts. We operate 30′ and 40′ New Flyer buses and 40′ and 62′ vehicles from Nova Bus.

By the early 1990’s, there were 1092 Neoplan AN435 and AN440 coaches that were in active service. Making SEPTA the largest transportation authority in North America with the fleet mainly manufactured by Neoplan USA.

SEPTA had at one point over 1,000 AN440s in their fleet. So, why didn’t we see more of these coaches and what became of the company?

2012年4月26日 · SEPTA's 1984-1985 Neoplans actually used the HTB-748 ATEC transmisison. Rear Ratio on the SEPTA's Neoplans were 4.67. LACMTA ordered CNG powered Neoplans too, the first buses they ordered when they did the switch over from SCRTD. ABQ Ride has some rejected LACMTA Neoplan AN440's as well, IIRC.
