2024年3月3日 · A filter sock removes that, and then you can easily take the sock out and rinse the stuff out of it. That's just my opinion, but I find it really helps to keep the tank clean, and helps to keep the tank looking clean because there won't be a lot of debris in the water column.

The premise behind a skimmer is a mechanical introduction of fine bubbles that remove the waste due to the foam fractionation. It is essentially the same concept as a filter floss...

2025年1月13日 · I dose copepods in the refugium from time to time and it’s full of amphipods already (copepods population might be gone in there), I also transfer bristle worms into there and it’s now full of em. I’m kind of using it as a living mechanical filter now, and to achieve higher PH, while keeping pods population good for display and mandarin.

If you use a canister filter in saltwater it is mainly a mechanical filter.( A skimmer is a mechanical filter too. 2021年4月13日 · I’d prioritize having a skimmer over the HOB filter. Like most mechanical filters if you don’t rinse the sponges out in the Aquaclear the waste just sits and breaks down . Where as skimmer cups completely remove waste from the water column and help with gas exchange.

2022年1月29日 · You want the sponge to filter out most of the unwanted particles first before reaching bio balls. After you finish cycling your tank, you can consider placing chemical filtration eg Purigen in between your mechanical eg. filter socks, sponge and biofiltration eg. ceramic rings, bio balls, etc Hope this helps.

2021年3月31日 · Activated carbon will filter out particles 0.5-5 microns, a water molecule is 0.00027 microns, a salt molecule is 0.0007 microns, bacteria range from 0.2 to 10 microns. So some bacteria likely gets filtered out, but most of the bacteria in a reef tank is growing on surfaces, not floating in the water column.

2024年7月31日 · I might add a clown goby once the tank is well established, and I imagine I will be adding something to the tank for the corals, pods, inverts, etc. If the water clarity doesn’t necessitate mechanical filtration, then the Aquaclear will just be extra flow, and a place I can add mechanical or chemical filtration if needed down the line.
