Compared to her cousins the Sovereign and the Odyssey, the Century is the smallest of the three modern explorer classes being built by Starfleet, in terms of both size and crew complement, but is the one most closely-aligned with Starfleet’s core exploration directive.

The Intrepid class was one of three ship types, including the Ganges -class, launched in the early half of the 22nd century to defend Earth. Its design was compact and more primitive than the NX-class cruiser of the 2150s decade.
