2016年5月20日 · The Kachin woman’s outfit is an example of traditional dress of the Kachin people who inhabit the Kachin Hills of northern Myanmar as well as bordering areas in China and India. Myanmar is an ethnically diverse nation made up of 135 nationally recognized distinct ethnic groups, which are then grouped into eight “major national ethnic races.”

In July 2001 the Green Centre commissioned weavers in Kachin State to make seventeen wedding outfits. The outfit designs were chosen by the weavers and relate to the six main Kachin ethnic groups, a number of Kachin subgroups and to modern styles of Kachin bridal wear.

The Kachin people are traditionally known for their disciplined fighting skills, complex clan inter-relations, craftsmanship, herbal healing and jungle survival skills. In recent decades, animist and Buddhist beliefs have been left, and are now embracing Christianity in different areas.

In the 1960s, during the time of Kachin Independence Army (KIA), the skirts with many different designs were not appreciated. Those skirts would be torn apart when found wearing them. Older generation of my mother's time wore Hka Hku bu pai (bu tut) skirts as casual wear at home.
