Gotham chess is becoming toxic and he is creating a cult
I won't lie, his "guess the elo" is still one of my favorite chess related video series, but I can't respect Gotham the same way I used to before he took off and starting calling his long term fans clowns for no reason. The fact that a successful YouTuber found a barely liked Reddit post to cry about shows how much he needs to get a life, sorry.
Can Levy (Gotham Chess) actually become a GM? : r/chess - Reddit
If he committed 100% of his focus towards studying chess instead of chess YouTube content the chance Wouldn't be zero. It would have to become his full time job though. Think of it like learning a language, most people won't become fluent in a foreign language at an adult age, even if they move to another country where It's very useful, but It ...

What happened to Gothamchess? : r/chess - Reddit
Gotham was playing this person himself in what he assumed would be a fair game of chess. Again you are conflating the videos Gotham made on cheaters with this situation. Hikaru spoke out on Gotham bringing attention to cheaters with those videos, because he believes it will likely exacerbate the problem rather than help.
Is GothamChess's beginner course worth it? : r/chess - Reddit
I have gained so much value from watching chess YouTubers. I think I’d buy a course from John Bartholomew, Chessbrah, Eric Rosen, or Gotham if they made one for 1800-2200. I worked as a chess tutor in Washington and they really just pushed 50/50 tactics and playing full games for beginners. I think you should keep watching Gotham and the others.
Is GothamChess a good channel for chess improvement? : r/chess
Say you want to be an FM, and you want to do it by the time you're 30 (assuming you're 20). That's a goal worth achieving, and it's one you can definitely do without committing your life to chess. But I wouldn't encourage anyone wanting to go that far in chess to commit themselves to watching Gotham videos.
Is Gotham Chess' Karo-Cann Course Worth It? : r/chess - Reddit
Is Gotham Chess' $40 Karo-Cann course good for that? Also in general, I've heard that karo-cann tends to lead to draw-ish games. Is it actually a fun opening to play? or is it just a strong opening that works really well defensively?
Review of a few Chessly Courses : r/GothamChess - Reddit
2024年1月17日 · I'm a big fan of Gotham and watch a lot of his stuff so I got some courses to show some support and hopefully learn something. Also for context, my chesscom rating is 1550. I also do find Levy to be a good teacher, but I assume if you don't agree you wouldn't be considering the courses anyway
GothamChess Courses, are they worth the money? : r/chess - Reddit
2021年4月15日 · I think the Gotham courses have quality content, but it's not what beginners should be studying. Gotham's courses all are opening repertoires - gambit lines, e6-b6 setups, the London system, etc. But it doesn't matter how good your opening is if you hang a piece on move 6 after your preparation runs out.
Is Gothamchess’ paid courses worth it? : r/chess - Reddit
Levy might not be the best chess player in the world, but being a teacher myself I can tell you that his teaching methods are far better than pretty much anything you're going to find on the internet. In most online courses, especially those published by famous grandmasters, they rapidly and monotoneously go through variation after variation ...
