The paper gives the thin foam board a lot of rigidity and allows the builder to easily decorate the airplane without worrying about melting the foam. I have made wings using 1/4" thick fan fold foam (FFF) board as two planks, a top and a bottom. I used square balsa sticks for the leading edge and a strip of balsa for the trailing edge.

The 5mm foam core board has a paper coating that can be easily stripped from the core if you require sections for bending. We’ve often found leaving the paper on the surface makes it easier to paint the finished model aircraft.
