Another powerful storm system is expected to sweep across a wide swath of the United States, bringing heavy rain to Southern California, heavy snow to parts of the West and Midwest and more snow and freezing rain to the Northeast and New England.

A snowstorm expected to leave behind snow on Saturday into Sunday could dump more snow than the two storms during the prior week.

The storm will impact about 200,000 square miles with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour in some areas. And more winter weather arrives midweek.
