Purdue Pharma’s Sackler family owners have struck a new agreement to settle mass opioid litigation against them for a total of $6.5 billion, New York Attorney General Letitia James said Thursday.

Under the deal, the Sackler family members will eventually pay a total of $6.5 billion while Purdue will pay $900 million.

Purdue Pharma planned to exit bankruptcy last year under terms that gave the Sacklers a full release from all civil opioid claims even though they themselves were not declaring bankruptcy.
