Two people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash inside a southwest Wyoming highway tunnel Friday, the state Department of Transportation said. Authorities shut down traffic in both directions along Interstate 80 in Green River after the pileup. The major, coast-to-coast roadway runs from San Francisco to Teaneck, New Jersey.

WYOMING, USA — A multi-vehicle crash inside a westbound tunnel on Interstate 80 has resulted in at least one fatality, according to Wyoming Highway Patrol. The collision occurred at milepost 90.2 just after 11:37 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14. Troopers are investigating the cause of the crash.

The crash occurred at 11:37 a.m. under a snow-dusted hill in Green River, Wyo., according to the State Transportation Department. By 5 p.m., the tunnel, which leads traffic west on Interstate 80, had been evacuated and the scene had “been contained,” the department said in a statement.
