The storm tracking into the West will bring rain and mountain snow to that region and then possible blizzard conditions to the Northern Plains. High winds will be widespread and could kick up blowing dust and contribute to a high fire danger in the Southwest and Plains.

A mammoth and multifaceted storm – which was dealing wind, fire, choking dust and the threat of a blizzard – pummeled much of the country as it marched east.

The forecast comes days after an expansive storm similarly trekked across the U.S. last week, unloading snow in the northern Plains and bringing tornadoes and wildfires to the South. At least five storm-related deaths in Nebraska and Mississippi were tied to that storm.

This storm will enter California and the West Coast on Wednesday with rain and mountain snow. It will then head into the central and eastern states late this week into the weekend with severe weather,

The setup Friday through the weekend is a potentially dangerous one in parts of the South, Midwest and East. Some tornadoes could be strong and widespread damaging winds are also a threat.
