The Australian town of Marysville once faced the same questions being asked in the Los Angeles neighborhoods that burned.

Named Mary Kathleen in honour of the late wife of amateur prospector Norm McConachy, who first discovered the abundance of uranium in the area, the township was officially opened in October 1958.
