A New Jersey man accused of repeatedly stabbing author Salman Rushdie on a New York lecture stage has been convicted of attempted murder.

A New Jersey man was convicted Friday of attempted murder for stabbing author Salman Rushdie multiple times on a New York lecture stage in 2022.

Rushdie, 77, took stand during the trial and described the attack that resulted in him becoming blind in one eye.

Friday’s conviction of Hadi Matar, 27, came three years after the incident, in which authorities say Matar attacked Rushdie while he was speaking on stage at the Chautauqua Institution in western New York state. Police tackled Matar to the ground shortly after he stabbed Rushdie multiple times.
