While millions of Earthlings watched the "blood moon" total lunar eclipse on March 13-14, the private Blue Ghost spacecraft caught an ultra-rare view of Earth blocking out the sun from the surface of the moon.

Earth’s shadow will block most of the light that illuminates the lunar surface, creating what is known as a blood moon.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth lines up directly between the sun and the moon. The Earth's shadow, called its umbra, falls on the moon.
