The most interesting part of the Gators mascot origin story may be that it wasn’t even developed in Florida but in Charlottesville, Virginia, at the University of Virginia.

The Florida ... current mascot is John B. Stetson himself, making his first appearance in 2012. Since then, the mascot got a makeover in 2021, where he was slimmed down and made more muscular.
