After failing in 2023, Texas lawmakers are once again proposing an end to daylight saving time. President Trump has shared similar sentiments.

Twice a year, people throughout the country change their clocks — once to “spring ahead,” and again to “fall back.”Here's when to change the clocks in 2025.

Texas lawmakers are resurrecting a yearslong debate regarding whether to end the decades-long practice of daylight saving time. Legislation has been filed in the Texas House and Texas Senate to end the process of changing the clocks twice a year.

Also known as “spring forward,” the yearly time change means turning the clock one hour forward. The sun will rise and set later in Kansas City.

Although winter may linger a while longer, daylight saving time and the first signs of spring will come to Texas in about a month.

In the last legislative session, around 30 bills were filed to either put Daylight Saving Time to a vote among Texas residents or to eliminate the clock changes altogether. This year, seven bills have been filed in the Texas House of Representatives and four in the Texas Senate.

Several members of the Texas House and Senate have filed legislation meant to put an end to the seasonal tradition of losing an hour of sleep in the spring due to the start of daylight saving time, only to gain the hour back in the fall when clocks revert back to standard time.

In 1986, Congress amended the Uniform Time Act, changing the beginning of Daylight Saving Time from last Sunday in April to the first Sunday in April, and having the end remain the last Sunday in October. These start and end dates were in effect from 1987 to 2006. The time was adjusted at 2 a.m. local time.

According to TimeAndDate.com, daylight saving time will start on Sunday, March 9, this year. Clocks will “spring forward,” as the saying goes, at 2 a.m. (ET). And while there are those who simply shrug and dutifully change their clocks in accordance with the practice, there are others who are hoping time’s up for daylight saving time.

In a new study, researchers at the University of Toronto aimed to find out whether pet dogs and working dogs need to take any time to manage the change. They used motion-sensitive watches to examine the activity patterns of 25 working sled dogs, 29 pet dogs, and their caregivers, during the weeks surrounding the clocks “falling back”.
