Hi there- sorry for your bad experience but I lived in Oman for 3 years and took many visitors, including 60+ mom and aunties to Wadi Shab--it is definitely doable though it is a tough hike over slippery rocks as you say. We all made it to the end, which is in fact a waterfall accessed through a narrow key hole. It is not for the faint of heart and maybe they should have been more explicit in the description but what you describe is very normal for Wadi Shab.
